May 1, 2012: The Month of Drinking Tea and Excising (Fictional) Tumors

Dear Reader,

It is now May, and I’m conferenced out–after attending New England’s RWA and SCBWI conferences, I’m ready to stay home and enjoy a cup of tea served in teeny tiny cups in the gazebo by my La Petite Adult.

The best things about these conferences? The drive. (And the people! Of course the people!) But the drive is when I do some good thinking–even better thinking than the stuff I usually do in the shower or on the treadmill. On these drives, I figured out how to excise the tumors that had grown on my current story. Because sadly? I don’t write a pristine story in my first draft.

Here’s to a May filled with tea parties. And tumor killing. And great books* read by me and La Petite Adult.   …Susan

*The books I’ve wishlisted on Amazon include Kristin Cashore’s Bitterblue, Jennifer Weiner’s The Next Best Thing, and Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven Boys.
